Pre-Kindergarten

Imagination, creativity and fun

Pre-Kindergarten Program Overview

A new world of learning opens up in our Pre-Kindergarten program!  This is the year that children begin to expand on skills critical to future academic success, and our professional teachers’ primary goal is helping your child’s development.

Our teachers are a dedicated group who are here because they love children.  Your child’s teachers will challenge your child and develop a special bond with every child.  They have three strong curriculum programs to draw from while still writing their own weekly lesson plans that tap into the children’s interests and cater to their abilities.

Curriculum

Your child will engage in a new learning experience in our Pre-Kindergarten classroom:  They will meet many new friends such as Mr. N with his Noisy Nose and Ms. A who always “AH-CHOOS”!  These friends come from our core curriculum program called Let's Begin With THE LETTER PEOPLE.  This comprehensive curriculum program is organized around themes, such “All about ME” or “Insects Everywhere” that integrate knowledge across different subject areas.

Realizing the importance of a strong math foundation, we also incorporate the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Pre-K Mathematics program into our curriculum.  This multi-sensory program compliments the Letter People Program philosophy.  Through both of these programs, age-appropriate concepts are developed and integrated throughout the areas of math and science, social studies, and literacy.  Rich program content and a multi-sensory approach to learning, using songs, visuals and hands-on activities, engages the whole child and makes math come alive for all learners.

Finally, Next Generation Children’s Centers uses Handwriting Without Tears™ as a primary component to its philosophy of supporting children’s handwriting skills starting in Pre-K.  Using “Mr. Mat Man” as a guide, this program focuses on children’s motor development and on their ability to understand the construction of each letter.

Parent Communication

Research shows that the children who are most successful in school are those whose families are informed and involved in their education.  At Next Generation, we are committed to strengthening the home-school connection.  You are always welcome in the classroom.

The following communication tools are an important part of our Pre-Kindergarten program:

  • Informational Daily Note detailing your child’s learning experiences and daily activities
  • Weekly Curriculum Plans are sent home detailing the lesson plans for the classroom in the upcoming week(s)
  • Weekly Family Activity Pages providing you with information about the Letter Person featured in a particular unit.  It will also include activities for your child and other family members to do together to reinforce the learning that takes place in the classroom.
  • ME Bag goes home empty with one child each week.  When it is your child’s turn, they may fill it with things they want to share such as family photos, a favorite stuffed animal, favorite book etc.  They bring the ME Bag back to class to share with their peers.  This helps build self-confidence and reinforces the home school connection.
  • Monthly Classroom Newsletters containing detailed curriculum information and a “parent invitation” event open to families to participate in an activity or project in the classroom
  • Your school’s individual page on the NCCCenters.com Website allows you to stay in touch regarding upcoming school events and program newsletters
  • Parent Information Boards in the classroom and in the lobby of the school where important postings can be found
  • Parent Pocket in the classroom, where important notices and newsletters are distributed
  • Parent Teacher Conferences may be scheduled at your request at anytime of the year and are also offered twice a year as an opportunity to review your child’s progress report(s) with your child’s teacher.
  • Classroom Telephone allowing you easy access to your child’s teacher.  Please feel free to call to discuss any issues or concerns.  We encourage you to do this during rest time, between 1 PM and 3 PM.
