Kindergarten

The foundation for elementary success

Kindergarten Program Overview

It is the goal of Next Generation Children’s Centers that at the end of their Kindergarten year, your child will be self-assured, independent, and have a strong academic foundation for entering elementary school.
Our full-day program combines academics, activities along with services, such as lunch, snacks and program visitors that you would expect from a private school.

Our teachers are state certified, experienced teachers who create a curriculum that is adapted to fit the needs of all students.  Our Kindergarten teachers meet regularly with our educational staff who offers support and guidance, assuring the success of the classroom.   At NGCC we take a child-oriented approach to teaching.  The teachers provide opportunities for one-to-one instruction and small group learning. They design their curriculum so that minimal time is spent in large-group learning. Our teachers recognize the importance of child-initiated activities and so your child will also spend time in learning activities of their own choosing.

Our teachers strive to be positive role models.   Through nurturing and positive guidance our teachers will inspire and encourage your child to resolve conflicts, problem-solve, demonstrate self-control, develop relationships of mutual respect, and accept responsibility gracefully.

Curriculum

Next Generation Children's Centers Kindergarten Program uses THE LAND OF THE LETTER PEOPLE as our core curriculum.  This wonderful language program builds on the concepts introduced in our Pre-K program “Let’s Meet THE LETTER PEOPLE”.  Our Kindergarten children continue to develop important literacy skills such as speech, letters, phonemic awareness, pre-reading, writing and listening.  In addition, each LETTER PERSON will work with each child on other important skills such as social, math, science and the arts. Next Generation Children's Centers also uses Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Math for our math program component building on the foundation from the Pre-K lessons.  Handwriting Without Tears™ is continued in Kindergarten by building on the handwriting basics started in our Pre-K program.

Parent Communication

Research shows that the children who are most successful in school are those whose families are informed and involved in their education.  At Next Generation, we are committed to strengthening the home-school connection.  You are always welcome in the classroom.  The following communication tools are an important part of our Pre-Kindergarten program:

  • Informational Daily Note detailing your child’s learning experiences and daily activities
  • Weekly Curriculum Plans are sent home detailing the lesson plans for the classroom in the upcoming week(s)
  • Weekly Family Activity Pages providing you with information about the Letter Person featured in a particular unit.  It will also include activities for your child and other family members to do together to reinforce the learning that takes place in the classroom.
  • ME Bag goes home empty with one child each week.  When it is your child’s turn, they may fill it with things they want to share such as family photos, a favorite stuffed animal, favorite book etc.  They bring the ME Bag back to class to share with their peers.  This helps build self-confidence and reinforces the home school connection.
  • Monthly Classroom Newsletters containing detailed curriculum information and a “parent invitation” event open to families to participate in an activity or project in the classroom
  • Your school’s individual page on the NCCCenters.com Website allows you to stay in touch regarding upcoming school events and program newsletters
  • Parent Information Boards in the classroom and in the lobby of the school where important postings can be found
  • Parent Pocket in the classroom, where important notices and newsletters are distributed
  • Parent Teacher Conferences may be scheduled at your request at anytime of the year and are also offered twice a year as an opportunity to review your child’s progress report(s) with your child’s teacher.
  • Classroom Telephone allowing you easy access to your child’s teacher.  Please feel free to call to discuss any issues or concerns.  We encourage you to do this during rest time, between 1 PM and 3 PM.
